Changing Plans on the Fly

After our nice stay at the Kingsgate border crossing it was great to get two wild kids & two wild dogs back on the road. Yes we are not a pretty sight. More like a three-ring circus but we like it that way. We had been promising the kids a trip to Silverwood Theme Park. I did look at the website and thought that W would be able to get on some of the rides and D would like the water slides.

We dislike to make campground reservations because we never know where we are going to end up. We are not so regimented that we have to make it somewhere by a certain time etc…. Well we pull in to the campground that is attached to Silverwood Theme Park around 4:00pm. The only sites are available are overflow in a field that is a part of the general parking for the theme park. Yikes this parking lot is huge and the line ups for both rids and water slides that we can see across the highway are larger.  The park looks like a lot of fun.  Maybe I looked at the website really through my “fun” eyes rather than what the kids are really capable of. There was no way the boys are going to wait in a 30 minute line up for a five-minute ride.  So we get back on the highway and head towards Coeur d’Alene.

We stop at a store/gas station in Hayden, Idaho for directions to a campsite.  We found a real gem where we stayed for two nights called Cedar Grove RV campground.  We have a 34ft motorhome with a slide & were able to back in put out our slide and awning.  The sites are private and well treed.   You will need to travel for about 1km on gravel road to a very little sign at the main gate.  When we arrived there was no one around so we picked a site and waited.  The owners came by in the evening and were very friendly.  The sites and facilities were well-maintained.  I was happy that they had recycling available. I loved that this is not a crowded campground but a relaxing place among trees.

During our two day stay we found a super alternative to Silverwood Theme Park that the kids just loved.  It was Triple Play Family Fun Park and Raptor Reef indoor water park.  These two smaller theme parks are attached to a Holiday Inn Express in Hayden, Idaho. Triple Play Family Fun Park had go karts, bumper boats, indoor & outdoor mini golf, indoor climbing, laser tag, arcade, bowling and children’s soft play climbing area.  The Raptor Reef indoor water park had three water slides, wave pool, two-story water play structure, water canons, dumping bucket, indoor and outdoor hot tubs.

We spent most our time at the smaller fun parks & spend less money than if we went to Silverwood Theme Park.  Unfortunately we did not get to explore Coeur d’Alene before hitting the highway to Seattle, Washington.
